Project is gearing up for an exciting new initiative that aims to promote rugby as a mainstream sport
among young people and military personnel, particularly focusing on the African community. Building on
the success of a similar project with a girls’ handball team in North London in 2016, the organization is
now shifting its focus to rugby, a sport that is rapidly gaining popularity in Africa. The next phase of the project will involve a series of teaching and training programs designed specifically for local young people, especially those of African descent. This initiative recognizes the growing interest in rugby across the continent and aims to harness this enthusiasm by providing structured training and development opportunities. By focusing on grassroots engagement, COMAPS hopes to create a sustainable model for rugby development that can be replicated across various regions. In addition to local training sessions, COMAPS has ambitious plans to extend the reach of rugby into new territories. One of the most significant upcoming projects involves introducing rugby for the first time in schools and among military personnel in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This initiative is particularly noteworthy because rugby is not traditionally associated with the DRC, makingm this an exciting opportunity to pioneer the sport in a country with immense potential. The overarching goal of these projects is to promote and expand the use of rugby in Central Africa, a region where the sport is still relatively new but is beginning to take root. By fostering a strong rugby culture in this area, COMAPS aims to contribute to the global growth of the sport while also providing valuable life skills and opportunities for young people and military personnel. These initiatives are being undertaken in collaboration with RUGBY FOR HEROES, a UK-based partner based in Cheltenham. This partnership has already proven to be fruitful, with both organizations sharing a common vision for the development of rugby and its potential to transform lives. To ensure the success of this project, representatives from COMAPS attended a six-week coaching training program organized by RUGBY FOR HEROES. This training was designed to equip selected members with a deep understanding of rugby and the necessary skills to train young people and military service members in the fundamentals of the game.Through these efforts, COMAPS Music and Sports Activities Project aims to make a lasting impact on
the lives of young people and military personnel, using rugby as a tool for education, development, and
social change. By introducing the sport in new regions and providing high-quality training, COMAPS is
paving the way for a new generation of rugby players in Central Africa.Furthermore, the organization extends its community engagement efforts to include sports activities, particularly for young people and especially young girls, who are interested in pursuing various sports disciplines such as handball, rugby, and basketball. These initiatives are aimed at promoting physical activity, teamwork, and discipline among youth, while also providing them with positive role models and opportunities for personal growth.
